FAQ

What is waterblasting?

Waterblasting, also known as water jetting, is a method of cleaning or cutting surfaces using a high-pressure stream of water. It is commonly used in industrial applications to remove dirt, debris, coatings, and other substances from surfaces.

How does waterblasting work?

Waterblasting works by pressurizing water and forcing it through a specialized nozzle or jet at high speeds. The pressure and velocity of the water stream can be adjusted to suit specific cleaning. The high-pressure water effectively breaks down and removes unwanted materials from surfaces.

What are the benefits of waterblasting?

Waterblasting offers several advantages over other cleaning methods. It is environmentally friendly since it does not involve the use of harsh chemicals. It is also versatile and can be used on various surfaces, including concrete, metal, wood, and more. Additionally, waterblasting is highly effective in removing tough stains, coatings, and contaminants.

How much does a high-pressure water system cost?

Costs vary based on your needs and the pressure needed. If you can tell us about your industry and application, we’ll be happy to help determine exactly what type of equipment you need and its cost.

Can I order everything from APS?

Yes. We sell everything you will need for waterblasting. Products include pumps, hoses, control guns, nozzles, safety gear, accessories and much more. We also carry many partner brands including Stoneage, TST, Turtleskin, Transfer oil, Parker and Spir Star making us the only place you need to shop

What applications is waterblasting commonly used for?

Waterblasting is used in a wide range of applications, including industrial cleaning, surface preparation before painting or coating, removing graffiti, cleaning building exteriors, descaling pipes and equipment, and cutting or demolishing materials.

Is waterblasting safe?

When performed by trained professionals, waterblasting is generally safe. However, it is essential to follow proper safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent injury. waterblasting at very high pressures can cause damage to surfaces or pose risks to individuals if not used correctly

Can waterblasting damage surfaces?

When used at excessively high pressures, water blasting can potentially damage delicate surfaces or substrates. It is crucial to use the appropriate pressure settings and select the right nozzle or jet for the specific surface being treated. Professional water blasters have the expertise to determine the suitable pressure levels for each application

What equipment is needed for waterblasting?

Waterblasting requires a high-pressure water pump, hoses, specialized nozzles or jets, and safety equipment such as gloves, goggles, and protective clothing. The specific equipment needed may vary depending on the scale and application of the waterblasting project.

Are there any environmental considerations for waterblasting?

Waterblasting is generally considered environmentally friendly since it does not involve the use of chemicals that can harm ecosystems. However, the wastewater generated during the process may contain contaminants, depending on the materials being removed. Proper containment and disposal methods should be followed to minimize environmental impact.

Can waterblasting be used in cold weather?

Yes, waterblasting can be used in cold weather conditions. However, precautions need to be taken to prevent the freezing of water in the equipment or hoses. Insulating the hoses and using appropriate antifreeze additives can help ensure the effectiveness of waterblasting in cold temperatures.

How close should the nozzle be from the material i am trying to remove?

The distance between the nozzle and the surface is directly related to the pressure of water, flow and the type of nozzle you have to work with. Typically, the more water you have, the further away you can work.

Why should i use waterblasting over sandblasting?

Waterblasting has many benefits over sandblasting, some of these are lower costs, no damage to substrate profile, no grit residue, no health problems, lower disposal costs and improved surface cleanliness as well as lower environmental impact. Check out our Blog on the subject

What pump size is best?

The appropriate choice will vary depending on the type of work you intend to undertake. If you are aware of the water consumption and the desired pressure, you can browse through our range of available models and choose the one that suits your requirements. However, if you are uncertain, please reach out to us. With our extensive experience, we are well-equipped to assist you in selecting the ideal pump for your specific application.

Can waterblasting be done on sensitive surfaces?

Waterblasting can be adjusted to suit different surface types and sensitivities. Lower pressures and specialized nozzles can be used for more delicate surfaces to prevent damage. It is advisable to consult with professionals or experts to determine the best approach for waterblasting sensitive surfaces.

What is the difference between waterblasting and pressure washing?

Waterblasting and pressure washing are similar in that they both use high-pressure water streams. However, waterblasting typically involves much higher pressures and is used for more heavy-duty applications, such as industrial cleaning and surface preparation. Pressure washing is generally used for lighter cleaning tasks, such as washing cars, decks, or siding.

How long does a waterblasting project typically take?

The duration of a waterblasting project depends on various factors, including the size of the area to be treated, the type and thickness of the material being removed, and the desired level of cleanliness. Small projects can be completed in a few hours, while larger projects may take several days or more.

Can waterblasting remove paint or coatings?

Yes, waterblasting is effective in removing paint, coatings, and other surface contaminants. The high-pressure water can break down and dislodge these substances from the surface. However, the effectiveness may vary depending on the type of paint or coating and the surface being treated.

Is waterblasting noisy?

Waterblasting can be noisy due to the high-pressure water pump and the sound of the water jet hitting the surface. The noise level can vary depending on the equipment used and the location of the project. Hearing protection is recommended for individuals working in close proximity to the waterblasting operation.

Can waterblasting be used for industrial pipe cleaning?

Yes, waterblasting is often employed for industrial pipe cleaning. The high-pressure water can remove scale, rust, mineral deposits, and other obstructions from the inside of pipes, improving flow and efficiency. Specialized nozzles and equipment are used for this purpose.

What brands do you offer?

We carry Parker, Spir Star, Stoneage, HiP, Maximator and more.

How much flow can I get down my lance?

Flow rates for hose, flex lance and pipe will depend on the material’s internal diameter. The larger the ID, the more flow that can be moved through the lance. Attempting to use excessive flow will result in a loss of pressure.

Do I need PPE to operate a Waterblaster?
